The name Soruhl is derived from sorrel, the traditional Jamaican hibiscus drink that inspired the brand.

Soruhl is an award-winning non-alcoholic hibiscus drink brand inspired by traditional Jamaican sorrel. Our drinks combine hibiscus with ginger, orange and warm spices to create a tart, floral and gently spiced flavour. Soruhl is inspired by Jamaica and handcrafted in Stockholm.

Soruhl products are non-alcoholic.

Soruhl Elixir can be mixed with still or sparkling water, served warm, used in alcohol-free mocktails or added to cocktails containing rum, gin, vodka or other spirits.

Soruhl was founded by Samantha Coward in 2021.

Born and raised in the United Kingdom by Jamaican parents, Samantha created Soruhl after moving to Sweden and discovering that she could not find the traditional Jamaican sorrel drink she knew from home.

Before founding Soruhl, Samantha worked in beverage sales and marketing for more than ten years.

Soruhl is inspired by Jamaica and handcrafted in Stockholm, Sweden.

Jamaican sorrel is a traditional hibiscus drink made from Hibiscus sabdariffa.

In Jamaica, the word “sorrel” is used for both the plant and the deep-red drink made from it. The drink is traditionally prepared with ginger, citrus and warm spices and is particularly associated with Christmas, family gatherings and celebrations.

It has a naturally tart, fruity and floral flavour and is usually served cold. Some adult versions also include Jamaican rum.

Jamaican sorrel is a type of hibiscus. Its botanical name is Hibiscus sabdariffa.

It should not be confused with common garden sorrel, or Rumex acetosa, which is a green leafy herb. When Jamaicans talk about sorrel as a drink, they mean the traditional red hibiscus drink made from Hibiscus sabdariffa.

The deep-red calyces surrounding the seed pod of Hibiscus sabdariffa are dried and brewed to make Jamaican sorrel and other hibiscus drinks.

They give the drink its distinctive red colour and tart, fruity flavour.

Hibiscus sabdariffa has strong historical connections to Africa and is commonly understood to have reached the Caribbean from West Africa. Hibiscus drinks are now part of food and drink traditions across Africa, the Caribbean, Latin America, North Africa, Asia and the Pacific. Related drinks are known by different names around the world, including:

• zobo in Nigeria
• sobolo in Ghana
• agua de Jamaica in Mexico
• flor de Jamaica in parts of Latin America
• karkadé in Egypt and North Africa
• roselle in several English-speaking regions

Natural sediment may collect at the bottom of a Soruhl bottle because the drinks are made with ingredients such as hibiscus, ginger, citrus and spices.

This is normal. Make sure the lid is securely closed, then gently shake the bottle before serving.

Hibiscus and other natural ingredients can vary slightly between harvests and production batches.

This means the colour of Soruhl may differ slightly from one bottle to another. These natural variations do not change our commitment to consistent flavour and quality.

Soruhl Elixir is a concentrated hibiscus drink and mixer. Dilute it with still or sparkling water, serve it warm or use it as a cocktail and mocktail ingredient.

Yes. Soruhl Elixir is a non-alcoholic hibiscus drink concentrate inspired by Jamaican sorrel.

It is made with hibiscus, ginger, orange and warm spices and can be diluted, served warm or used as a hibiscus cocktail and mocktail mixer.

Mix one part Soruhl Elixir with four parts still or sparkling water.

Serve chilled over ice and garnish with lemon, lime, mint, fresh ginger or orange.

You can adjust the amount of Soruhl Elixir to make the drink stronger or lighter according to your taste.

When mixed at the recommended ratio of one part Soruhl Elixir to four parts water:

• a 500 ml bottle makes approximately 2.5 litres, or ten 250 ml servings
• a 700 ml bottle makes approximately 3.5 litres, or fourteen 250 ml servings

The exact number will depend on your glass size and preferred strength.
